In the early hours of September 9, Russian forces launched drone attacks against the international automobile checkpoint at Starokozache, one of the two principal crossing points on the Ukraine-Moldova border in the Odesa region. The assault led to casualties, including Ukrainian border guards. Moldova’s Foreign Ministry extended condolences to the families of the victims and wished a swift recovery to those wounded.

This latest strike marks the third Russian attack on border crossings between Ukraine and Moldova within a two-week span:

• On September 6, an attack on the Orlivka checkpoint at the Ukraine-Romania border temporarily halted its operations.
• On September 1, Shahed-type Russian strike drones targeted the international ferry checkpoint at Orlivka, triggering fires.
• On August 25, Russian UAVs struck infrastructure at the Vynohradivka – Vulcănești crossing on the Ukraine-Moldova border.

Additionally, near the village of Stari Mikhailiany in Moldova’s Rîșcani district, a drone crash occurred involving debris resembling characteristics of the 'Geran' drone. Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha emphasized that these military actions occurring so close to Moldova’s territory present a direct threat to the country’s security and its citizens.
