Three communities in Chernihiv region received new inclusive school buses
Bobrovytsia, Vertiivka and Varva communities in Chernihiv region received new inclusive school buses ahead of the school year. The vehicles are equipped with lifts for transporting children who use wheelchairs. This was reported by the head of the Chernihiv Regional State Administration Vyacheslav Chaus.
The new transport has already been handed over to the communities, and the region plans to receive a total of 14 school buses throughout 2026. The program includes ten regular and four specially equipped vehicles.
Three communities in Chernihiv region received inclusive school buses
Inclusive buses were transferred to Bobrovytsia, Vertiivka and Varva territorial communities. Their key feature is special lifts that allow safer transportation of schoolchildren in wheelchairs.
Such transport is expected to reduce the dependence of children with disabilities on individual transportation to educational institutions. For rural communities, where distances between settlements and schools can be significant, an accessible bus is one of the conditions for in-person learning.
The purchase is being implemented with funds from state subsidy and local budgets within the EU Ukraine Facility financial support program. Almost 45 million UAH have been allocated by the state for updating the vehicle fleet in Chernihiv region, while local communities contributed over 12.5 million UAH.
Chernihiv region will receive school buses by September and in the fall
Three specialized vehicles have already been delivered to the communities. Another inclusive bus and ten regular school buses are planned to be delivered by the end of August or during September.
Previously, the regional administration reported that the tender for the procurement of 14 buses had to be announced several times due to a lack of participants. The bidding took place in July, allowing the transport supply to proceed.
Updating the vehicle fleet for the region remains critically important. According to Vyacheslav Chaus, five school buses were destroyed due to Russian shelling in Chernihiv region, and four were damaged. In addition to war losses, some of the existing vehicles are already outdated and need replacement.
In 2025, the region acquired 34 school buses for about 102 million UAH. This current delivery continues the update of the transport that daily facilitates the transportation of children from villages to schools.
It should be noted that Chernihiv region has recorded fires resulting from Russian attacks. In Novhorod-Siverskyi district, a building of a postal infrastructure facility was set on fire due to the attack. In Pryluky district, a fire occurred involving 2 fuel trucks and 5 tankers for transporting oil products.
