23-Year-Old Senior Combat Medic Diana Horun Killed in Donetsk Region

Serving under contract, Diana-known by her call sign Marena-held the position of senior combat medic for a unit specializing in strike unmanned aerial vehicles. Her death was reported by the Hnizdychiv United Territorial Community, where she was born in 2003.

Diana’s passing deeply affected her comrades, who praised her bravery and dedication.

“She chose not to stand aside but to take on the responsibility of defending Ukraine, standing alongside those who face danger daily. Her calling was to save the lives of Ukrainian soldiers, support her fellow fighters, and fight for our nation's freedom and independence. This choice revealed her courage, strength of spirit, and great heart,” the Hnizdychiv community stated.

Remembering Fallen Heroes

Diana was not alone in making the ultimate sacrifice. Valeria Stepanova, an FPV drone operator known as Demon, also lost her life during a combat mission following a Russian drone attack. Additionally, military paramedic and instructor Vasyl Shyrokorad, call sign Tourist, died after sustaining multiple wounds and undergoing several surgeries.

On October 27, Kyiv bid farewell to military paramedic, journalist, and veteran Olena Shargovska, known by her call sign Jane.

“We are already avenging her, and she remains in our memory,” one of Diana’s comrades shared, underscoring the profound grief felt by all who knew her.

Diana’s fellow soldiers also remember her positive spirit and genuine warmth.

“She endured tough times but kept hope and positivity alive in her heart, sharing it sincerely with those around her. I will miss our deep, philosophical talks and your infectious laughter,” a comrade expressed.

The loss of courageous individuals like Diana, Valeria, Vasyl, and Olena leaves an indelible mark on their loved ones and everyone fighting for Ukraine’s peace and sovereignty.

The deaths of Diana and other frontline medics and drone operators highlight the critical roles they play in modern warfare.
