Ukrainian Emergency Divers Recover Explosive-Laden Drone Fragment from Kyiv Region Lake
Explosive Device Discovered in Kyiv Region Waters
According to ДСНС: During a search of a lake in the Kyiv region, divers from the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SESU) located and retrieved a dangerous explosive device containing approximately 1.5 kilograms of explosives. The object is believed to be a fragment from a downed Russian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV). The lake was being examined as a suspected crash site for an enemy drone, a common occurrence since Russia's full-scale invasion began in 2022.
Even after prolonged submersion, drone wreckage and explosive components remain highly unstable and hazardous. The public is strongly warned:
- Do not touch the object
- Do not move it
- Do not attempt to disarm it yourself
If you spot any suspicious item or debris, you must immediately call the emergency number 101.
An Ongoing Threat to Civilian Safety
The discovery of explosive ordnance, particularly from downed drones, poses a severe and persistent threat to civilian safety across Ukraine. This incident underscores the critical need for systematic searches in areas where dangerous remnants of conflict may still be present, a grim reality of the ongoing war.
Citizens are urged to remain extremely vigilant and to strictly follow expert safety guidelines if they encounter any suspicious objects.
