Hryhorii Podoliak: A Ukrainian War Hero Remembered

According to Главком: Hryhorii Podoliak, a Ukrainian serviceman killed in the Russo-Ukrainian war, left behind vivid memories and a lasting example of courage. Born on September 16, 1985, in Lviv, he attended Lyceum No. 21 of the Lviv City Council. After completing his education, he earned a law degree from the Interregional Academy of Personnel Management. He later worked as a lawyer in the private sector and as an inspector at the Lviv Customs Office. His life story reflects the dedication of many Ukrainians who balanced civilian careers with a commitment to national defense.

Military Service and Acts of Valor

Before Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Podoliak actively participated in the Anti-Terrorist Operation (ATO) and the Joint Forces Operation (JFO). When the large-scale war began, he once again took up arms to defend his homeland, serving in the 14th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after Prince Roman the Great. During his service, he fought to protect Ukraine on the Mykolaiv and southern Slobozhansk fronts.

For his bravery and selflessness, Hryhorii Podoliak received several honors, including:

  • the Presidential Award "For the Defense of Ukraine";
  • the Medal "For Participation in the Anti-Terrorist Operation";
  • the breastplate "Badge of Honor."

Tragically, the hero’s heart stopped on April 21, 2026, on the battlefield near Kupiansk. He was buried at the Lychakiv Cemetery in Lviv, leaving behind his parents, wife, son, and a large family who will remember his sacrifice and contribution to Ukraine’s fight for independence. His life and service stand as a testament to bravery for many Ukrainians.
