Kyiv to Build Modern Park with Fountain at Former Lenin Statue Site

A New Public Space for Kyiv

According to Главком: Kyiv plans to transform the site of a former Vladimir Lenin monument into a modern public square featuring a fountain and pedestrian crossings. The project, funded by non-budgetary sources, aims to convert this central location into a convenient and aesthetically pleasing space for residents and visitors. Work is scheduled for completion next year. This initiative is part of a broader national movement to reimagine public spaces following Ukraine's decommunization laws.

The site is located at the intersection of Khreshchatyk Street and Taras Shevchenko Boulevard in central Kyiv. A statue of Vladimir Lenin stood there until it was toppled on December 8, 2013. Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA), Valentyn Mondriivskyi, announced the renewal plans.

Planned Features

The project includes the creation of at-grade pedestrian crossings to ensure safe movement in this part of the city. The planned renovation elements are:

• A modern fountain;
• New pavement;
• Updated lighting;
• Seating areas for rest;
• Extensive landscaping.

The fountain will be financed through private donations and sponsors, as a standing KCSA tender commission has already approved the use of non-budgetary funds.

The municipal corporation 'Kyivavtodor' has begun procurement procedures for necessary materials via the Prozorro system. The project's implementation represents another step toward improving the capital's infrastructure and creating comfortable conditions for its inhabitants. The project is slated for completion next year, allowing Kyiv residents and tourists to enjoy the renewed space.

Recall that in August 2025, the last Lenin bust on Ukrainian-controlled territory was dismantled in the village of Rudkivtsi, Novoushytskyi district.
