The first salt plant in Ukraine will be built in Odesa region: it will save the Kuyalnik Estuary
Salt production plant in Odesa region
In early 2026, the first salt production plant in Ukraine will start operating in the Odesa region, producing food and technical salt on an industrial scale. This plant will play an important role in preserving the Kuyalnik Estuary, as its activities will help reduce the salinity levels in this natural site, which currently exceeds 300 parts per thousand.
The construction of the plant began in 2024. The project is being financed by LLC 'Chornomorsky Salt Plant', which invested $2.8 million in it. The plant is expected to produce 15 thousand tons of salt per month, which will cover more than 50% of the salt market needs in Ukraine.
Restoration of natural balance in Kuyalnik
Vitaliy Rudenko, a representative of the company, stated that the company intends not only to perform production functions but also to take responsibility for restoring the natural balance in Kuyalnik.
“We see our role not only in salt production but also in restoring Kuyalnik. If we can remove the excess salt and return the natural balance of the estuary - we will do it. It is our responsibility to the region and the country,” - Vitaliy Rudenko.
The plant will be an important step towards preserving the ecosystem of the Kuyalnik Estuary, as it is necessary to reduce the salinity of the water to 180-250 parts per thousand to preserve the mud. It is expected that the launch of the plant will bring not only economic benefits but also positively impact the environment.
The launch of the salt production plant in Odesa region may significantly change the salt market in Ukraine by providing the necessary volumes of products and reducing dependence on imports. Moreover, reducing the salinity of the Kuyalnik Estuary may contribute to the restoration of its biodiversity and improve the ecological situation in the region, which is important for local residents and the ecosystem as a whole.
