Attack in the Village of Verba

According to Главком: On April 29, 2026, in the village of Verba, located in the Dubno district of Ukraine's Rivne region, a 48-year-old serviceman opened fire on a vehicle carrying personnel from the Territorial Center for Recruitment and Social Support (TCC) along with a police officer. The attack resulted in two individuals sustaining injuries from shattered glass, while the vehicle itself suffered mechanical damage. The assailant, who was riding a bicycle and pulled an object resembling an automatic weapon from his bag, fled the scene and went into hiding.

The incident occurred around 5:00 PM. Inside the service vehicle that came under attack were TCC military personnel and a law enforcement officer. Two people who sustained bodily injuries were hospitalized, while two others in the vehicle were unharmed. According to the Office of the Prosecutor General,

“after the attack, the man fled the scene and went into hiding. Law enforcement identified the attacker as a 48-year-old serviceman. He was tracked down and detained under Article 615 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.”

Legal Ramifications and Growing Concerns

Authorities are currently preparing charges against the attacker under Part 2 of Article 15, Paragraphs 1 and 8 of Part 2 of Article 115, and Part 4 of Article 408 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. This event follows a similar incident that occurred just a day earlier in Khmelnytskyi, heightening concerns among local residents and law enforcement agencies.

The attack underscores mounting security challenges in Ukraine, particularly those linked to armed conflicts and violence stemming from social tensions. In response to such cases, law enforcement may tighten controls and introduce additional safety measures to prevent future occurrences. The ongoing investigation and subsequent state actions will be critical in restoring public trust in law enforcement and ensuring safety across the country.

This alarming incident is not an isolated case, as just a day earlier, military recruiters faced a violent attack in Vinnytsia, resulting in one individual being critically injured. Such events highlight the escalating risks faced by military personnel during recruitment efforts across Ukraine.
