Tragedy Strikes Rivne Region

According to Главком: In a heartbreaking conclusion to a ten-day search, the body of the older of two missing brothers was discovered on April 15 in the village of Kolky, Rivne region. The boy had been missing since early April. This discovery followed the tragic finding of his younger brother's body on April 5. The search operation, which mobilized rescue workers, police, volunteers, and canine units, covered an extensive area of approximately 224 hectares of land and the waters of the Horyn River.

The two children, born in 2021 and 2023, had been left unattended near a body of water. Upon receiving the report of their disappearance, a large-scale search was immediately launched.

"After the body of the younger brother was found on April 5, all efforts were focused on locating the older child. The boy was found one kilometer from the site of the disappearance," stated the State Emergency Service (SES).

Scale of the Search Operation

More than 60 SES rescuers participated in the operation, utilizing specialized equipment and boats. To scour the waterbed, search teams deployed underwater drones, sonar, and unmanned aerial vehicles. They meticulously examined the shoreline, coastal areas, and the bottom of the water body. Tragically, the search culminated in the recovery of both boys' bodies, a devastating outcome that has deeply shaken the local community.

This incident has sparked significant public concern and renewed discussions about child safety near water. The tragedy of leaving young children unsupervised underscores the critical need for vigilant adult oversight, especially during warmer months when families often gather near rivers and lakes. While the massive search effort demonstrated the dedication of emergency services and volunteers, the sorrowful result serves as a stark reminder of the paramount importance of child safety in such environments.

In a related incident, the search efforts for another child in the same region highlight ongoing concerns about safety near water. The recent discovery of a missing 3-year-old boy has drawn attention to the importance of vigilant supervision for young children, especially in outdoor settings. As the local community grapples with these tragic events, discussions around child safety continue to gain urgency.
