According to Главком: Two of Ukraine's athletes, Serhii Shumilov and Vitalii Rymaruk, have been killed in the war. Serhii Shumilov, born in 1994, was a Greco-Roman wrestler and a product of the IOC Children and Youth Sports School No. 1. He died on January 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy in sport and the memories of his colleagues and supporters.

Vitalii Rymaruk was 26 years old at the time of his death and had also made a significant mark on Ukraine's sporting history. He was a Ukrainian youth champion and served as an officer in the 1st Combat Group of the 4th Special Purpose Group. Vitalii was killed on the front line, specifically in the Pokrovsk direction of the Donetsk region.
