Weight Limits Imposed on Heavy Vehicles in Vinnytsia Oblast

According to Главком: Authorities in Vinnytsia Oblast have introduced restrictions for heavy trucks due to soaring temperatures. The measure applies when daytime temperatures exceed 28°C, targeting vehicles weighing over 24 tons with an axle load above 7 tons. Trucks affected by this rule are being rerouted to designated parking areas near roadside service facilities.

The following categories of transport are exempt from these restrictions:

  • Transportation of hazardous materials;
  • Transportation of perishable goods;
  • Transportation of live animals and poultry;
  • Transportation related to preventing or responding to emergencies.
“If daytime air temperatures exceed 28°C, the movement of cargo vehicles weighing more than 24 tons with an axle load over 7 tons will be temporarily restricted on the region’s roads,” stated the Vinnytsia Oblast patrol police.

Protecting Road Infrastructure During Summer Heat

These measures are designed to preserve asphalt surfaces, which tend to deteriorate under the weight of heavy trucks during hot weather. It is worth noting that in early June, the Cabinet of Ministers allocated 3.5 billion hryvnias from the state budget’s reserve fund for repairing local roads. Since the beginning of the year, road workers have already restored 14 million square meters of pavement, reflecting active efforts in this area.

The restrictions on heavy truck traffic in Vinnytsia Oblast underscore the government’s commitment to safeguarding road infrastructure during the summer heat. These steps are part of a broader strategy aimed at improving road quality, especially critical under increased stress on road surfaces. At the same time, exemptions for certain cargo categories ensure that essential logistics-such as the transport of hazardous or perishable goods-remain uninterrupted.

In addition to the truck restrictions in Vinnytsia, similar traffic management measures are being implemented in other regions to ensure road safety and infrastructure integrity. For instance, an overnight closure at key intersections in Kyiv highlights the government's proactive approach to managing traffic flow during peak periods. Such coordinated efforts reflect a broader strategy to address the challenges posed by extreme weather conditions on road networks.
