Arrest of an Armed Man in Zakarpattia

According to Главком: Police in Zakarpattia have arrested an armed man for kidnapping a woman and child, violently resisting officers, and attempting to abduct a second child. Criminal proceedings have been initiated. The incident occurred in a settlement within the Mukachevo district, where a call was placed to the emergency line 102 at 10:56 a.m. by paramedics reporting the abduction of a woman and a young child. Preliminary information suggests the perpetrator was traveling in a Skoda vehicle and was likely armed.

The suspect arrived at the home of a 45-year-old female acquaintance in the Mukachevo area. During an argument, he held a pistol to the woman's head and forced her and her three-year-old child into his car. He then drove to the Berehove district, where he attempted to kidnap another child-his own grandson. He also inflicted bodily harm on his daughter during the ordeal. Seizing an opportunity, the woman from Mukachevo managed to escape the kidnapper's vehicle with the three-year-old. The assailant again used his weapon during this confrontation.

Apprehension and Aftermath

The arrest took place in the Berehove district, where the man offered armed resistance. He fired a traumatic pistol at a police officer's head and attempted to run over another officer with his car. According to representatives of the National Police,

"a police unit prevented him from leaving the scene."

He was detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. All individuals involved are safe, and the young children sustained no physical injuries.

The injured officer is receiving medical attention, and his life is not in danger. Two criminal cases have been opened: under Part 2 of Article 146 and Article 348 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, concerning unlawful deprivation of liberty or kidnapping and an attempt on the life of a law enforcement officer. The detainee faces a potential sentence of 9 to 15 years in prison or life imprisonment.

This incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding domestic violence and abductions in Ukraine. Such cases often involve complex personal disputes that escalate into public danger. Law enforcement agencies remain vigilant in responding to these threats, and a thorough investigation aims to ensure justice and prevent similar future incidents.
