Investigation of Corruption in Energy

According to Главком: The National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) has announced its intention to interrogate 40 individuals in a case of large-scale corruption in the energy sector as part of the 'Midas' operation. This operation has been ongoing for 15 months, and the pre-trial investigation has been extended by the High Anti-Corruption Court until August 10, 2026.

Currently, 13 computer-technical forensic examinations and 6 audio examinations are underway, indicating the active nature of the investigation. On November 10, NABU announced the suspicion of seven individuals, including:

  • Timur Mindich
  • Igor Mironyuk
  • Dmitry Basov
  • Alexander Tsukerman
  • Igor Furtsenko
  • Lesya Ustyimenko
  • Ludmila Zorini

It is known that Timur Mindich and Alexander Tsukerman have been under sanctions in Ukraine since November 13, and have also fled the country and are in hiding in Israel.

According to the investigation's version, 8 episodes of a criminal organization have been recorded, with a total amount exceeding 256 million hryvnias. As Semen Kryvonos noted, the circle of suspected individuals will continue to grow, indicating further development of the investigation. All these facts highlight the seriousness of the situation concerning corruption in Ukraine's energy sector.

Importance of the Investigation

The investigation of corruption schemes in Ukraine's energy sector is an important step in the fight against corruption at the state level. The 'Midas' operation underscores the problems that exist in this sector and points to the need for reforms to improve transparency and accountability.

“Further interrogations and the expansion of the circle of suspects may lead to new charges and, we hope, the restoration of public trust in state institutions.” - Semen Kryvonos

Thus, the situation may have a significant impact on the political and economic landscape of Ukraine in the future.
