Investigation Concludes on Former Deputy Prime Minister for Illicit Enrichment Exceeding 13.9 Million UAH
Investigation into Former Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Completed
According to НАБУ: The National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) together with the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) have finalized the pre-trial probe concerning a former Deputy Prime Minister who also served as Justice Minister. She faces allegations of illegally accumulating assets valued over 13.9 million UAH and submitting false declarations.
During the investigation, it was uncovered that the suspect owns two apartments in the 'Faina Town' residential complex, registered under a close friend’s name, worth nearly 11 million UAH. Additionally, several assets under her use were found to be registered in the names of relatives and associates, including:
- An apartment in the premium 'Lvivska Ploshcha' business-class complex, registered to her mother;
- A Mercedes-Benz GLC 220 d vehicle, registered under a subordinate's name.
Notably, these properties were not disclosed in her official asset declarations.
Negotiations for a Kyiv Suburban Property
It also emerged that the former official engaged in talks to purchase a house near Kyiv estimated at around 550,000 USD. The proposed payment plan included 250,000 USD in cash and the remainder through the transfer of two 'Faina Town' apartments. However, the purchase did not proceed, likely due to her appointment to a diplomatic role abroad. Officially, her income from early 2024 to mid-2025 amounted to approximately 3.7 million UAH, while bank records show expenditures close to 4.2 million UAH during the same period.
This case marks a significant moment in Ukraine’s ongoing anti-corruption efforts, particularly as it involves a high-ranking official wielding substantial influence over national policy. The completion of the investigation paves the way for court proceedings that could have far-reaching implications not only for the accused but also for public confidence in government institutions. The continuation and outcomes of such probes will likely shape future reforms aimed at strengthening anti-corruption measures in Ukraine.
The recent conclusion of the investigation into the former Deputy Prime Minister highlights the broader issue of corruption within high-ranking officials in Ukraine. This case resonates with similar instances, such as the recent charges against multiple individuals involved in embezzlement schemes totaling over 26.8 million UAH, reflecting the ongoing challenges in tackling corruption at various levels of government.
