Late October Brings Up to 30°C Heat in Europe While Ukraine Faces Gradual Cooling and Frost
Weather Trends Across Europe at the End of October
According to УНІАН — Туризм: As October draws to a close, certain parts of Europe, especially the southern Iberian Peninsula, will experience temperatures soaring to nearly 30°C. Meanwhile, eastern Europe is set to see a drop in temperatures. In Ukraine, warm and mostly dry conditions will persist until the end of the month, followed by a steady chill beginning around October 26, with frost risks emerging in northern regions.
Specifically, some European areas could witness highs approaching 30°C during the last days of October. The southern Iberian Peninsula is expected to be the warmest zone due to the development of a new anticyclone creating a heat dome. Early in the week, French cities like Ajaccio recorded temperatures as high as 29.5°C, and Calvi reached 28.4°C. This warmth will also extend to southern Portugal and parts of southern Spain. The heatwave is projected to last from October 26 through 31.
Cooling Pattern in Eastern Europe
From October 21 onward, eastern Europe will experience cooler weather, with daytime temperatures ranging between 9°C and 16°C. As the anticyclone shifts eastward, colder air masses from the west and north will move in, causing temperatures to fall. In Ukraine, temperatures will remain above average and the weather predominantly dry until late October, though light rain may occur mainly in western regions, and fog could develop in the Right-Bank areas.
Beginning October 26, a gradual temperature decline is expected across Ukraine. Nighttime frost on the ground and in the air is likely in northern districts toward the end of the month. The first snowfall could arrive by late November, particularly in the Carpathians and western parts of the country. Although November is forecasted to be warmer than usual, snow cover may be inconsistent and melt quickly.
“In some areas, temperatures may even climb to 27–30°C, signaling a brief return of late-season heat,” notes the Polish weather outlet Dobra Pogoda 24.
These temperature fluctuations across Europe carry important implications for agriculture. Prolonged warmth in the south could delay the onset of winter, while the cooling trend in the east might harm crop yields. Such contrasting weather patterns highlight ongoing shifts in the climate that affect farming cycles and energy demands, as regions facing colder conditions will see increased heating needs.
As the weather shifts in Ukraine towards the end of October, it's essential to understand the broader climatic trends impacting the region.
