According to НВ — Техно: A study published on June 26 at 6:30 PM examines ancient handprints found in the Cueva de las Manos cave and other sites. These images, around 11,000 years old, were analyzed at locations including Cerro Azul and Paredones del Potrero. Researchers documented 496 handprints, with 70% (348 specimens) featuring decorative patterns.

Key Findings from the Research

The study, featured in the scientific journal World Archaeology, revealed that 256 handprints contain spiral ornaments, while 84 display linear motifs such as zigzags and ellipses. Most of these designs are situated 2 to 3 meters above ground level. To decode the symbols, elders from indigenous communities were brought into the research process.

Ulderico Matapi, an elder of the Matapi tribe, stated that 'each of these drawings is an encoded form of shamanic knowledge, for instance, skills in land cultivation or gathering medicinal plants.'

Meanwhile, Victor Caicedo, an elder of the Desana tribe, emphasized that 'stylistic differences in the patterns indicate the presence of various tribes, who used this method to assert their spiritual and social identity.'
