Electric scooter owners face fines of up to 40 thousand: how to avoid
In Ukraine, there is an interesting feature: driving electric transport with a motor power of less than 3 kW does not require a driver's license. So, if you have an electric scooter, scooter, or a light motorcycle with low power, you can safely operate them without a driver's license and registration with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
“This means that electric scooters, scooters, and light motorcycles do not require (driver's licenses).”
However, unfortunately, sometimes police officers violate the law and fine electric transport owners for the absence of documents. The fine may range from 3400 to 40,800 UAH, and they may also require payment of 850 UAH for the lack of registration, even though this is not mandatory for small electric transport.
Police mistakes and fines for electric scooter owners
Such cases of erroneous fines occur in all corners of the country. For example, in Kharkiv, an electric scooter owner received a fine, but it was canceled in court. Experts recommend always carrying all necessary documents and defending one's rights in court in case of a conflict with the police.
“The problem is that the law is often misinterpreted in practice, leading small electric transport owners to become victims of erroneous fines.”
Ukraine has an interesting rule for owners of electric transport with low motor power that is worth knowing to avoid troubles with the police.
