Overnight Assault on Kyiv

According to Главком: In the early hours of June 15, Russian forces launched a massive combined strike on the Ukrainian capital, firing approximately three dozen ballistic missiles. This attack ranks among the most extensive in terms of the number of ballistic weapons used. The assault resulted in casualties and significant damage across several districts of the city.

Countering the Threat

Ukraine’s air defense relied on Patriot missile systems to intercept the incoming threat. Yuriy Ihnat, head of communications for the Ukrainian Air Force, stated that

“this latest massive shelling of Kyiv is one of the heaviest in terms of ballistic missile count.”

He also urged Ukrainians not to post photos of missile debris on social media, as the enemy exploits any Ukrainian content to advance its own narratives and propaganda.

Traffic was temporarily halted on several streets in Kyiv due to the aftermath of the strike. Images surfaced online showing a fragment of a Patriot missile that apparently downed a Russian Zircon missile. These photos were subsequently used by Russian Telegram channels to spread false claims that Ukraine had struck itself. Ihnat emphasized:

“Here is an example of how the enemy uses any Ukrainian content to push its own narratives and propaganda: yet another lie that we shelled ourselves.”

This attack underscores the persistent threat Ukraine faces during the war and the critical need for effective air defense systems. It also highlights the importance of information security, as the adversary leverages disinformation to manipulate public perception. The response of Ukrainian forces demonstrates their readiness to counter both physical and information-based aggression.

In light of the recent missile strikes, it is crucial to understand the broader context of Russia's military actions. Just days prior, over 40 missiles and 300 drones were launched against various targets in Ukraine, showcasing the scale and intensity of the ongoing conflict.
