Massive Russian Strike Unleashes 135 Drones and Missiles Across Eight Ukrainian Regions
Russian Military Strikes Against Ukraine
According to ДСНС: In a large-scale assault, Russian forces targeted Ukraine with 135 drones and 10 missiles of various types, most of which were ballistic. The attacks resulted in casualties and damage to civilian and critical infrastructure across multiple regions, including:
- Kharkiv
- Chernihiv
- Zaporizhzhia
- Kyiv
- Dnipropetrovsk
- Donetsk
- Zhytomyr
- Odesa
In the Kharkiv region, seven people-including one child-were wounded. Residential buildings, gas stations, and railway infrastructure sustained damage. Three people were injured in Chernihiv, where a home and power grid facilities were hit, leaving thousands of families without electricity. Zaporizhzhia also came under fire, with an apartment building damaged in the strike.
Kyiv was not spared either: civilians were wounded, and 16 structures-including a school and a business-were damaged. Critical infrastructure strikes were also reported in the Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zhytomyr, and Odesa regions.
Call for International Support
In response to these attacks, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged stronger sanctions against Russia.
“Pressure on Russia must increase. There is no time to waste-this week, the 21st EU sanctions package should be adopted,” he stated.
He emphasized that 'every day of delay in sanction decisions means additional time for Russia to prepare for them.' Zelenskyy also stressed the need to halt the supply of all components that Russia uses to continue the war.
Zelenskyy added that “our agreements with partners on European antiballistic systems can provide additional security for Ukrainians.” He expressed confidence that “shared capabilities are sufficient, and together we can build truly reliable protection for Ukraine and all of Europe.”
These events once again highlight the urgent need for a new EU sanctions package-a key demand from Ukrainian leadership amid the escalating conflict.
The situation in Ukraine remains tense, and attacks on civilian infrastructure underscore the importance of international support for ensuring security. The Ukrainian president’s calls for tougher sanctions reflect the state’s strategic approach to countering aggression, as well as the need to intensify diplomatic efforts to coordinate actions with partners. It is critical that the international community responds to these challenges, as further steps could significantly shape the course of events in the region.
The recent assaults have intensified calls for decisive action from the international community, particularly regarding sanctions. Following these attacks, there is a growing urgency for the new sanctions proposed by the EU to address Russia's aggression, as leaders emphasize the need for immediate measures to bolster Ukraine's defenses and support its resilience against ongoing threats.
