Russia Launches Massive Night Strike: 210 Drones Target Energy Grid and Civilians, Injuries Reported

Night attack by RF: drones over energy
Російські сили завдали великомасштабного нічного удару, спрямувавши 210 дронів на енергетичну інфраструктуру та мирне населення, що призвело до поранень.

Strike on Ukrainian Infrastructure

According to Главком: Russian forces unleashed a wave of drone attacks overnight, hitting Ukraine's energy systems, critical infrastructure, railway networks, and civilian sites. A total of 210 attack drones were deployed, with approximately 140 of them being Shahed models. The assault caused damage across multiple regions, including:

  • Odesa
  • Kryvyi Rih
  • Kharkiv Oblast
  • Sumy Oblast
  • Zaporizhzhia Oblast
  • Odesa Oblast

Aftermath of the Attacks

In Odesa, five people were wounded, and fires broke out in two apartment buildings. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy remarked that

“last night, the Russians once again waged war against ordinary apartment blocks in Odesa.”

In Kryvyi Rih, one person was also injured by a drone strike. In Kharkiv Oblast, railway infrastructure-including traction substations-was targeted, resulting in damage and a fire involving train cars. The shelling left thousands of families without power.

Sumy Oblast and Zaporizhzhia Oblast also came under attack. On the night of May 1, 2026, Russian occupation forces struck port infrastructure in Odesa Oblast, particularly in the Izmail district, where two people were wounded. The President emphasized that

“such daily strikes show that more pressure needs to be applied to Russia.”

Zelenskyy called for the continuation of sanctions against Russia, stating that 'if Russia does not voluntarily move toward diplomacy, it must be forced to do so.' These events highlight the escalating situation in Ukraine and the ongoing threat from Russian forces.

The relentless attacks on civilian infrastructure underscore the conflict's intensification and the persistent violation of international laws of war. International support-including sanctions against Russia-remains critical for Ukraine amid the ongoing hostilities. In the face of such assaults, Ukrainian authorities stress the need to bolster defense capabilities and ensure the safety of citizens.

In light of the recent escalation, it is crucial to examine the broader context of Russia's drone warfare against Ukraine. A similar incident occurred on March 20, when over 200 drones were launched, resulting in casualties in Dnipro and Odesa. This pattern of attacks underscores the persistent threat to Ukrainian infrastructure and civilians.
