Five Dead, Dozens Wounded as Russian Forces Strike Kyiv and Kharkiv Overnight
Overnight Assault on Ukraine
According to Зеленський: A nighttime Russian attack on Ukraine has caused significant casualties and infrastructure damage. As of now, five people are confirmed dead in Kyiv from the overnight assault, with another 40 wounded in the capital. In the Kyiv region, seven injuries have been recorded. Kharkiv reports 28 victims, and the Odesa region has two wounded. Nationwide, 180 structures have been damaged, over 50 of which are ordinary residential buildings.
Search and Rescue Efforts Underway
A search-and-rescue operation is ongoing in Kyiv's Darnytskyi district, where more than ten people remain unaccounted for. Over 750 State Emergency Service personnel and nearly 750 police officers have been deployed to manage the aftermath. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that the overall interception rate for missiles and drones exceeded 93%.
“The overall interception rate is over 93%,” the President stated.
Additionally, Russian forces twice struck a vehicle belonging to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in Kherson using FPV drones. The vehicle carried the Office’s head and eight other staff members, but fortunately, no injuries occurred in that incident. Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized the need for continued international pressure:
“It is crucial that the world imposes sanctions against Russia. Russia’s accountability for the war and our sanctions pressure must work at one hundred percent.”
The situation across Ukraine remains tense, with emergency services working tirelessly to address the fallout from Russian strikes.
This attack marks another escalation in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, now in its third year. The rising death toll and widespread infrastructure damage highlight the severity of the crisis and the challenges facing Ukrainian society. Sustained international sanctions against Moscow, as Zelenskyy noted, could be a key factor in curbing Russian aggression and supporting Ukraine during this difficult period.
The recent attack on Kyiv and Kharkiv is part of a broader pattern of escalating violence, as evidenced by another massive assault where over 200 drones and ballistic missiles targeted various regions of Ukraine, including Dnipro and Odesa. This ongoing conflict has severely impacted civilian life, with numerous injuries reported across affected areas.
