Germany Commits PAC-2 Missiles to Bolster Ukraine’s Patriot Systems

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Ukraine will receive PAC-2 interceptor missiles for its Patriot air defense batteries, sourced from the Bundeswehr’s reserves. This commitment was revealed during the 'Ramstein' group meeting and aims to provide Ukraine with these critical weapons ahead of the winter season, a time when Russia has threatened attacks on the country’s energy infrastructure.

In addition to the PAC-2 missiles, Germany is ramping up deliveries of AIM-9 air-to-air missiles, also drawn from its military stockpiles. Minister Pistorius emphasized ongoing shipments of IRIS-T air defense systems, including mass-produced guided missiles.

"Furthermore, we are maintaining continuous supplies of IRIS-T air defense systems, with a focus on guided missiles produced in series.", Boris Pistorius

Ukraine plans to order several thousand more IRIS-T guided missiles, supported by an EU-backed loan. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the EU member states’ agreement to supply components for Ukraine’s Patriot systems. The EU’s upcoming financial tranche of €3.2 billion is intended to enhance Ukraine’s capacity to defend its airspace against Russian assaults.

Appeal for Broader International Assistance

Minister Pistorius urged all members of the 'Ramstein' group to review their own stockpiles and consider providing similar support.

"I recognize the challenge of balancing national security needs with the urgent support Ukraine requires. But if you are uncertain, please choose to stand with Ukraine.", Boris Pistorius

These measures reaffirm Germany’s dedication to assisting Ukraine amid escalating threats posed by Russia.

This development highlights the crucial role of international solidarity in helping Ukraine withstand ongoing Russian aggression, especially during the vulnerable winter months when energy infrastructure is at risk. Germany’s delivery of PAC-2 missiles and increased shipments of other air defense systems demonstrate a firm commitment by Germany and its allies to strengthen Ukraine’s defenses, vital for regional security. The additional EU funding further underscores the collective effort to promote stability and safety across Europe.

This latest commitment from Germany is part of a broader strategy to strengthen Ukraine's air defenses as winter approaches.
