Germany will supply Ukraine with domestically produced Patriot missiles: when to expect
German Major General Christian Freuding reported that Germany is ready to produce missiles for the Patriot air defense systems. This means that in the future, Ukraine may receive these missiles from German manufacturers without prior approval from the United States.
Merkel added that he approached Trump last week with a request to supply Patriot systems. 'The Americans themselves need some of them, but they have a lot of them. It is not yet decided whether the supply will take place,' he said.
U.S. President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of transferring Patriot systems to Ukraine. According to information from the WSJ, the White House has requested the Pentagon to consider sending another air defense system to Ukraine.
Increase in missile purchases for Patriot systems
In the new fiscal year, the U.S. plans to spend more than $1.3 billion on missile procurement for Patriot air defense systems. A significant increase in the number of missiles purchased is planned, from 3,376 to 13,773 units. The final decision on this matter will be made by lawmakers who are working on the budget for the U.S. Department of Defense.
Pat Hegeiset, head of the Pentagon, did not inform President Trump's administration about the suspension of arms supplies to Ukraine the day before.
After Germany opened a production line for Patriot missile systems, the possibility of supplying these missiles to Ukraine takes on a new level. Creating additional sources for supplying important defense systems to Ukraine is a significant step in supporting the country's security and defense capability. The governments of Germany and the United States continue to actively discuss ways to strengthen Ukraine's defense potential, which indicates the importance of cooperation between the countries in this matter.
