Detention of Dmytro Karchuk

According to Radiotrek — Світ: A well-known CEO from Ukraine, detained at the Polish border, has finally been able to return home. Dmytro Karchuk, director of the CEO Club Ukraine, was detained on July 28 under a European warrant issued in Germany. He was accused of stealing 171 electric bicycles from a warehouse in Germany in September 2024, although he had evidence of being in Ukraine at that time.

The German investigation suspected that a person identifying themselves as Dmytro Karchuk used forged documents to export bicycles worth about 127,000 euros. However, Karchuk's defense gathered 55 letters of recommendation from entrepreneurs, politicians, and thought leaders in his support, and 11 Polish citizens expressed their willingness to personally vouch for him.

Withdrawal of the arrest warrant

Sergiy Haidaiyuk, who accompanied the case, stated that the German side withdrew the European arrest warrant for Dmytro Karchuk, after which a Polish judge released him.

“We have the main news we have been working for over the last 2.5 weeks: the German side has withdrawn the European arrest warrant for Dmytro Karchuk, and the Polish judge has just released him,”

Haidaiyuk noted.

Since July 28, a team from Arzinger, Polish and German lawyers, as well as the Ukrainian consulate, has been working on the case.

“The consul has been in touch all this time, personally visiting Dmytro, communicating with the Polish side, and helping us in everything possible at the diplomatic level,”

added Haidaiyuk.

Currently, Dmytro Karchuk is already back in Ukraine, and his situation has sparked discussions about the crime mechanisms that led to his detention.

“The story is not over yet. It is important for us to find out in Germany what specific data of Dmytro were used, and how it fell into the hands of the wrongdoers,”

emphasized Haidaiyuk.

Dmytro is already home, and the situation with his detention is an important example of the support he received from the state and the community.

“For us, it was very important to understand that the state did not leave Dmytro alone with this situation,”

he stressed.

The situation with Dmytro Karchuk has drawn attention to issues of international justice and the mechanisms of cooperation between countries in cases related to crimes. The withdrawal of the European arrest warrant indicates that the legal system can be flexible when there are sufficient grounds to review the case. It also emphasizes the importance of support that public institutions and the community can provide in complex legal situations.
