July's Top Athletes and Coaches Named by Ukraine's NOC
Award Winners in the 'Best Athlete of the Month' Competition for July 2023
According to Рубрика: Ukraine's National Olympic Committee has announced the latest honorees in its monthly recognition program for outstanding sports achievements. Fencer Alina Polozuyuk earned the senior women's award after taking bronze in the individual foil event at the World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong. In the young female category, canoeist Yelyzaveta Vozniuk was selected after winning silver in the 200-meter C1 race at the Junior World Canoe Sprint Championships; she also added two more silver medals at the Junior European Championships in Szeged.
Coach Honors and Federation Recognition
Larysa Pavlenko and Roman Bundz were named the coaches of the month for their key roles in preparing these athletes. Additionally, the NOC will recognize the Fencing Federation of Ukraine, the Dynamo Ukraine sports society, and the Canoe Federation of Ukraine for their support and contributions to the development of sport. Winners will receive cash awards, commemorative statuettes, and plaques in honor of their achievements.
Other notable results by Ukrainian athletes included:
- Olha Sopit, who at age 23 brought Ukraine its only gold at the 2026 European Fencing Championships, winning the individual women's foil title and becoming the first Ukrainian foil fencer to claim that title at the European level. Together with Dariya Myronyuk, Alina Polozuyuk, and Kristina Petrova, she also took bronze in the women's team foil event.
- Lyudmyla Luzan, who won the third stage of the Canoe Sprint World Cup in Montreal.
- Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who competed at the Summer Athletics Championships of Ukraine in Lviv, earned the gold medal, and cleared 2.00 meters.
July 2023 thus proved to be a productive month for Ukrainian athletes, who delivered strong performances on the international stage and added new honors to the country's growing collection of achievements.
