Ukraine to Implement Hourly Power Outage Schedules Starting January 31

Light schedule from January 31
В Україні з 31 січня почнуть діяти нові графіки відключень електроенергії.

Hourly Power Outages to Begin Across Ukraine

According to Главком: Starting January 31, 2026, Ukraine will introduce scheduled hourly power outages and impose capacity limits for industrial consumers. This measure is a direct response to the severe damage inflicted on the country's energy infrastructure by Russian missile and drone attacks. All regions of Ukraine will be affected, requiring residents to closely monitor the new electricity supply schedules. These outages are part of a broader effort to manage a national grid under immense strain.

Information on specific local outages will be available on the official websites of each regional power distribution company (oblenergo). Additionally, beginning January 30, 2026, applications will open for the 'SvitloDim' (LightHome) program. This state initiative is designed to support apartment buildings in securing autonomous power sources, a critical step toward ensuring greater energy resilience for communities.

Guidance for Consumers During Outages

In light of the ongoing energy crisis, Ukrenergo, the national power company, urges all consumers to use electricity sparingly. When power is restored according to the schedule, it is recommended to avoid using high-wattage appliances to prevent immediate re-triggering of outages. Consumers are strongly advised to refrain from using:

  • Hair dryers;
  • Charging stations with a power draw exceeding 300 W/h;
  • Other devices with high energy consumption.

For essential device charging during prolonged blackouts, the Nova Poshta postal service network will offer charging points at its branches.

Danylo Hetmantsev, Head of the Parliamentary Committee on Finance, Tax, and Customs Policy, has called on citizens to prepare for changes in the electricity supply schedules and to adhere to the guidelines provided by energy companies.

The implementation of hourly power cuts represents Ukraine's strategic response to persistent challenges in the energy sector caused by external aggression. These measures, coupled with the 'SvitloDim' program, underscore the state's efforts to stabilize the power supply under extraordinarily difficult conditions. Conscious and economical energy use by consumers remains vital to reducing the load on the national grid and enhancing its overall stability during this period.
