From October 1, changes to the rules for bank cards in Ukraine: what awaits owners

Starting from October 1, 2025, Ukrainians using bank cards can expect significant changes in how information about their payments is displayed. The National Bank of Ukraine is establishing new rules aimed at ensuring transparency and security in financial transactions.

Currently, many clients have problems deciphering codes and abbreviations in statements, making it difficult to identify the payment recipient. This can lead to misunderstandings and abuses.

Main changes include:

Displaying the full name of the recipient in bank statements

• Indicating the name and account number for transfers, regardless of the chosen bank
• Expanding the list of mandatory data in payment orders for better protection
• Mandatory display of the full name of the acquirer before making online purchases

Benefits for clients

The new rules will simplify the identification of the payment recipient during online purchases, allow for better control over utility payments, and make it easier to recognize transactions at various establishments.

Changes will occur automatically, without the need for client adjustments. Banks and payment systems will independently implement the upgraded data exchange processes with sellers by the established date.
