New phase of pension reform in Ukraine
According to ХВИЛЯ: Starting from January 1, 2026, a new phase of pension reform will come into force in Ukraine, which strengthens the requirements for insurance experience for retirement. According to the new rules, to receive a pension at the age of 60, citizens must have at least 33 years of official insurance experience. This significantly raises the requirements compared to previous conditions.
Moreover, the right to a pension at 63 years of age is granted if one has 23 years of experience. Thus, for those who do not reach the required experience by the age of 60, there is an opportunity to apply for a pension at 63, but with the mandatory condition of having the specified experience. If a person does not have even 15 years of official work, they can only count on state social assistance.
The importance of the new requirements
Experts note that most people who reach the age of 60 usually have no less than 33-35 years of experience, which confirms the importance of meeting the new requirements to ensure a proper standard of living in retirement. These changes in the pension system aim to adapt to modern economic realities and enhance the financial stability of pension payments.
The introduction of new requirements for insurance experience is an important step in reforming the pension system of Ukraine, as it aims to ensure greater financial stability of pension payments.
Given that the population is aging and the economy faces new challenges, it is important for the system to support those who have really contributed to the development of the country through official employment. Accordingly, these changes may encourage people to legalize their work and increase their insurance experience, which, in turn, will positively affect the overall standard of living of the population in the future.
