Introducing the Halos for Robotics Platform

According to НВ — Техно: On June 23, NVIDIA announced the launch of the Halos for Robotics safety platform, designed to support the development and deployment of autonomous robots. This initiative aims to create a secure environment for physical artificial intelligence in industrial settings.

Agility Robotics is the first company to adopt elements of Halos for Robotics, planning to integrate NVIDIA's technologies into its Digit robot. Digit is already in use by clients including:

  • Amazon
  • GXO
  • Schaeffler
  • Toyota Motor Manufacturing Canada

Technical Details and Safety Measures

The new platform features the NVIDIA IGX Thor industrial computing module, the Holoscan Sensor Bridge for sensor connectivity, and the Halos Core software. NVIDIA notes that the system draws on over 18,600 person-years of experience in autonomous vehicle safety development. To back these efforts, the company established the NVIDIA Halos AI Systems Inspection Lab, the first accredited program to simultaneously evaluate functional safety and intelligent robotic systems.

Under this new initiative, the inspection program assesses safety, cybersecurity, and software performance. Additionally, more than 40 companies have joined the Halos ecosystem, signaling growing interest in secure robotics technologies.

As stated by Deepu Talla, NVIDIA's vice president of robotics and edge AI, 'physical artificial intelligence is transforming factories, warehouses, and logistics centers, so developers need a unified safety architecture to scale autonomous systems in these environments.'

Lori E. Locasio, president and CEO of ANSI, emphasized that 'with the rise of AI-powered robots in industry, the sector needs internationally recognized safety assessment standards for increasingly complex systems.'

Agility Robotics highlighted that safety remains a key prerequisite for the widespread adoption of humanoid robots.

The launch of NVIDIA's Halos for Robotics platform underscores the growing importance of safety in developing autonomous systems, which are being integrated more rapidly into industry. This could significantly shape safety standards and regulations, as the increasing number of AI-enabled robots demands novel approaches to evaluating their safety. Collaboration with other companies in this field may also accelerate innovation and build greater trust in emerging technologies among users.

In addition to the advancements showcased by NVIDIA, the collaboration with LG highlights a broader trend in the robotics industry, where companies are increasingly focusing on the integration of AI capabilities. This partnership aims to enhance the development of intelligent robots, reflecting the growing need for innovative solutions in automation.
