Severe Weather Halts Truck and Bus Traffic at Ukraine-Moldova Border
Border Traffic Restrictions with Moldova
According to Главком: Ukraine has imposed a temporary ban on freight and passenger vehicles crossing into Moldova due to severe weather conditions. The restrictions affect the M-15 Odesa-Reni highway and all border checkpoints, as deteriorating weather has made transportation hazardous. Such measures are periodically enacted in the region to ensure safety during winter storms and heavy snowfall.
Details of the Restrictions
The ban applies to all trucks and passenger transport vehicles, including buses and minibuses. These vehicles are prohibited from crossing the border at the following checkpoints:
- Palanka-Mayaky-Udobne
- Starokozache
- Serpneve
- Maloyaroslavets
- Lisne
- Reni
- Dolynske
- Orlivka
- Vynohradivka
- Tabaky
- Novi Troyany
These restrictions will take effect at 05:00 on February 18, 2026.
Private car traffic remains unrestricted, allowing passenger vehicles to continue crossing. Road maintenance crews are operating on an enhanced schedule to maintain safety on affected routes. Updates regarding the resumption of normal traffic will be provided once conditions improve.
The border closure underscores the severity of the weather, which poses a significant risk to regional transport and logistics.
This decision is part of broader safety protocols designed to protect drivers and passengers and to maintain traffic stability during extreme weather events. Drivers are strongly advised to account for these restrictions and plan their journeys according to the current road conditions.
