How Starlink Speed Limits Are Disrupting Ukrainian Military Drones and Helicopters Amid Unclear Accountability
Технології Starlink впливають на швидкість безпілотників та вертольотів в Україні, ставлячи під питання їхню ефективність у бойових умовах.

Starlink Speed Restrictions Hampering Ukrainian Military Operations

According to ХВИЛЯ: The recent imposition of speed limits on Starlink connections has significantly disrupted the functionality of Ukrainian interceptor drones and military helicopters that rely on satellite communication during high-speed maneuvers. Ukraine remains uncertain about who authorized these constraints. According to Ukrainian advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov, this development raises serious concerns as it weakens the country's defensive capabilities without hindering offensive operations against enemy forces.

Frontline Challenges and Ukraine’s Request for Support

Beskrestnov highlighted the ongoing confusion in Ukraine regarding the origin of this decision:

“The Pentagon says it’s SpaceX, SpaceX says it’s the U.S. government. This back-and-forth leaves us unable to determine who is responsible.” – Serhiy Beskrestnov

Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to urge the United States to supply Patriot missiles, pointing out that the requested amount represents just 4-5% of the U.S. stockpile. Beskrestnov emphasized:

“We are asking the U.S. to provide these missiles because Russian forces are destroying our infrastructure. This quantity is a small fraction of their reserves and won’t affect U.S. defense, yet the support has not been granted.” – Serhiy Beskrestnov

Most Starlink terminals on the front are fixed at stationary positions, while Russian troops intensify attacks on Ukrainian cities, bridges, and storage facilities aiming to cripple the economy. Beskrestnov noted that "the best engineers from Russia-and not only Russia but also China-are working against us." High-speed Russian drones like the Geran-5, capable of reaching speeds up to 1,000 km/h during maneuvers, also present a formidable challenge to Ukrainian forces.

In light of Russia’s new mobilization, which calls for 300,000 additional personnel, Ukrainian troops face mounting difficulties amid increased Russian offensives. Although Russian equipment is being rapidly destroyed on the battlefield, enemy forces operate in small, mobile units, including motorcycles, complicating Ukrainian defensive efforts.

This situation highlights the critical importance of clear communication and cooperation among allied nations. Ambiguity surrounding the source of technology restrictions could severely undermine Ukraine’s defense capacity. With combat intensifying and Russia reinforcing its military, Ukraine urgently needs modern weaponry to effectively counter aggression. Swift, coordinated international support is essential to bolster Ukrainian forces as they strive to protect their country.

The limitations imposed on Starlink connections are not only affecting drone operations but also raising questions about the reliability of military support. As highlighted in a related report, the terminals fail to operate above speeds of 130 km/h, complicating the situation further for Ukrainian forces as they face increasingly sophisticated threats from Russian military technology.
