Ukraine Braces for a Summer of Power Cuts, Says National Security Adviser
According to Главком: Olha Babii, an adviser to the Secretary of Ukraine's National Security and Defense Council (NSDC), has warned that scheduled electricity blackouts will persist for a long time, even without new Russian attacks. She stated that Ukrainians should prepare for an 'energy marathon' this summer, noting that restrictions will continue for a considerable period regardless of whether there are further missile or bomb strikes. Babii expressed hope that energy workers would receive the necessary funding and equipment to restore the power supply. These ongoing energy challenges are a direct consequence of Russia's systematic targeting of Ukraine's civilian infrastructure.
Heating Supply Situation
As of January 28, 737 residential buildings in Kyiv remained without heating. The vast majority of these, specifically 639 apartment blocks, are located in the city's Desnianskyi district.
Olha Babii emphasized that Ukraine must adapt to new realities, including peak deficit periods that will arise with more sunny days. She also noted that preparing for the scale of attacks Ukraine has endured was virtually impossible, and that no country in the world could have withstood such challenges. The situation in the energy sector remains complex, and people should be prepared for prolonged electricity restrictions.
Olha Babii's statement underscores the protracted nature of Ukraine's energy crisis, which is driven not only by military attacks but also by deep-seated structural issues within the energy sector.

As state authorities work to prepare the population for these new realities, they are striving to ensure stability in electricity supply despite the immense challenges. This situation also highlights the urgent need for adaptation to climate variations and rising energy demand in a context of severe resource shortages.
