Exchange of driver's licenses from 2026: no need to retake exams
Exchange and renewal of driver's license in Ukraine
According to ХВИЛЯ: The Main Service Center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine confirmed that for exchanging or renewing a driver's license in January 2026, there is no need to retake exams. This is important news for drivers who plan to update their documents, as the procedure for exchanging licenses has not changed.
During the period of martial law, drivers can take advantage of simplified conditions. In particular, a medical certificate is not mandatory for exchanging or renewing a driver's license. Drivers can contact any service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in person or order the necessary service online, which significantly facilitates the process.
Conditions for retaking exams
However, it is worth noting that exams will only need to be retaken in the case of revocation of the right to drive by a court decision. Also, when exchanging a 'temporary' license for a permanent one, drivers do not have to pass exams if they have recorded no more than two administrative offenses. These rules will significantly simplify the procedure for many drivers, ensuring convenience and accessibility in obtaining driver's licenses.
These changes in the procedure for exchanging and renewing driver's licenses have a significant impact on drivers in Ukraine, especially during the period of martial law. Simplifying the requirements allows for a reduction in administrative burden and improves access to important documents, which can positively affect citizens' mobility. Given the current situation in the country, such innovations contribute to easing the lives of drivers and reducing stress associated with obtaining or changing documents.
