Children Evacuated from Kherson Region

According to Главком: A new phase of mandatory evacuation for children and their families is underway in the Kherson region due to relentless shelling. The Coordination Headquarters for Evacuation Measures has ordered the evacuation of 46 minors from four settlements within the Stanislavska and Khersonska communities. These areas are under constant fire from occupying forces, making it unsafe for residents to remain.

According to Ukraine's Ministry for Communities and Territories Development, some of the families slated for evacuation plan to relocate to safer areas within the Kherson community, including Mykolaiv and Odesa. Preliminary arrangements have also been made to accommodate families in the following locations:

  • Kryvyi Rih
  • Poltava Oblast
  • Kirovohrad Oblast
  • Volyn Oblast
  • Vinnytsia Oblast
  • Odesa Oblast

Since June 1, 2025, over 178,000 people have been evacuated from front-line territories in Ukraine, including more than 23,000 children and over 6,000 individuals with limited mobility. The Ukrainian parliament has authorized the forced evacuation of children from combat zones without parental consent. Decisions to declare a mandatory evacuation are made by military administrations, based on proposals from military command and in coordination with the Coordination Headquarters. When a mandatory evacuation for children is ordered, one parent or legal guardian is obligated to evacuate the child. If parents refuse, the National Police of Ukraine carries out the evacuation, and the child is subsequently transferred to child protection services.

Ensuring Child Safety

These measures are critically important for ensuring the safety of children and other vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities and the elderly.

The situation in Kherson Oblast remains tense due to constant shelling, compelling authorities to take emergency measures to protect children and their families. Forced evacuation is a crucial step for ensuring safety, as in wartime the lives and health of children require special protection. It is significant that government bodies are actively cooperating with military command to organize the safe relocation of affected families to secure areas within Ukraine. This evacuation order is part of a broader, ongoing effort to move civilians away from active hostilities in southern Ukraine.
