According to glavcom.ua: Media reports indicate that she battled a severe illness for over a year, but do not specify which one.

Irina Podnosova, head of the Supreme Court and classmate of Vladimir Putin at the university, has passed away in Russia at the age of 71. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing the Russian publication RBK.

In the judicial system, Podnosova was considered a very influential figure, 'as everyone knew who was behind her.'

Irina Podnosova's Career

Irina Podnosova was born in Pskov in 1953. In 1975, she graduated from the law faculty of Leningrad State University named after Zhadanov, just like Vladimir Putin. Since 1990, she worked as a judge. From September 2018 to July 2020, she headed the Second Appellate Court of General Jurisdiction. In 2020, she was appointed head of the Judicial Board for Economic Disputes of the Supreme Court, although she had not previously worked in arbitration. She became the head of the Supreme Court in April 2024, after the death of the previous chairman of the court, 80-year-old Vyacheslav Lebedev, who held the position from 1991 to 2024. It was during his leadership that Russia reached a historic low in acquittals in criminal cases.

Irina Podnosova tragically passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with illness. Her career in the judicial system was very successful, and her death is a great loss for justice in Russia.
