Odesa received 7 buses from Dnipro: where they are planned to be used
Odesa received seven passenger MAZ buses from Dnipro. The transport will strengthen the city's fleet and help duplicate electric transport routes during power outages, when the city is looking for ways to support the operation of social buses. The transfer was announced by the head of the Odesa Military Administration, Serhiy Lysak, in a message.
What buses Dnipro transferred to Odesa
The city received low-floor MAZ buses of two types. Depending on the model, each can carry from 100 to 150 passengers, has 26 seats, and a ramp for wheelchair passengers.
Air conditioners are installed in the drivers' cabins. The buses are equipped with Mercedes-Benz engines and Voith automatic gearboxes. Such transport will partially take over passenger flows when trams or trolleybuses are not operating due to power outages. Buses have already been used in Odesa to replace electric transport on routes.
Where the buses are from and why they are needed in Odesa
The buses were transferred to Odesa on the Day of the City of Dnipro as a gesture of support and friendship between the cities. Earlier, in October 2022, Kyiv transferred 30 vehicles to Dnipro to replace the buses destroyed due to Russian shelling. Now seven of them have been sent to Odesa, where there is also a need for additional transport.
Russian attacks have damaged and destroyed part of Odesa's rolling stock. The new buses are expected to strengthen transport services and help the city maintain connections, especially when electric transport cannot temporarily go on line. The city is already using free social bus routes that complement the city's transport network.
