Polyakova Turns Down a Former Culture Minister's Advances

According to Главком: Ukrainian singer Olya Polyakova has revealed that she once rejected the romantic overtures of a married former Minister of Culture of Ukraine. In an interview with Andriy Bednyakov, she recounted how the minister pursued her despite both of them being married at the time. Although she did not disclose his name, Polyakova shared details of the encounter, explaining that she first met the minister in Yalta, where she had been invited by the then-president.

According to Polyakova, the minister offered to drive her home after a concert, to which she replied:

“Well, I’m married.”

However, the minister, who was also married, responded:

“So am I.”

Realizing the inappropriateness of the situation, the singer decided to reject the official’s advances. She recalled how the minister invited her to his dacha, but she declined, noting: “I refused him very politely, without offending him.” After her refusal, the minister took offense and chose not to drive her home.

Controversy Surrounding TheNogi Project

Separately, Polyakova has faced backlash over her latest project, TheNogi. In the music video, she appeared dressed as Jesus, sparking outrage among certain segments of society. Clergy members, including Archbishop Viktor (Bykov) of Artsyz, vicar of the Odesa Eparchy of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, criticized her actions, calling them a disrespectful play on Christian symbolism.

These two incidents involving Polyakova have stirred significant public debate, highlighting the role of ethical standards in public life and culture. Her rejection of the minister’s propositions, along with her participation in the controversial project, illustrates how personal choices and creative decisions can become focal points of societal discussion, reflecting the cultural values and expectations of the community.

In light of these recent events, Polyakova's actions have not only sparked controversy but also raised questions about the intersection of personal ethics and public persona. Following her rejection of the minister's advances, she has now challenged the clergy regarding her artistic choices.
