Oleh Plotnytskyi Hints at Potential Ukraine National Team Comeback This Year
Oleh Plotnytskyi Comments on a Possible Return to the Ukrainian National Team
According to Главком: Volleyball player Oleh Plotnytskyi, who plays for the Italian club Perugia, has addressed the possibility of returning to the Ukrainian national team. This follows his announcement in March 2025 that he was ending his career with the national squad. Plotnytskyi shared his thoughts on that decision and the chance of playing for the team again.
Explaining his choice to step away from the Ukrainian national team, Oleh Plotnytskyi stated:
“I made a difficult but considered decision. My story as a player for the Ukrainian national team has reached its conclusion.” - Oleh Plotnytskyi
He clarified that this was a 'rather cold calculation' and that, in his view, it was easier for everyone to release an official statement on the matter. Plotnytskyi stressed that all the officials at the federation know he will not be playing, so 'it was easier to make an official announcement – and that's it.'
Chance of a National Team Return
Despite retiring from the national team, Oleh Plotnytskyi has not ruled out a comeback. He noted:
“We have been in contact, we are communicating with the coach... And I think there is a possibility that I will join the national team this year, but we still have some organizational issues to resolve with him.” - Oleh Plotnytskyi
Plotnytskyi added that they have not yet spoken on the phone, only 'texting very rarely,' but he hopes to discuss plans within the next month. His potential return would be a significant boost for a Ukrainian team that regularly competes at the highest European level.
Therefore, despite his official retirement, Oleh Plotnytskyi acknowledges the possibility of returning to the national team in the future, generating interest among volleyball fans in Ukraine. This illustrates that sports stars often remain open to new opportunities even after announcing their retirement, which could positively impact the team in future competitions.
