Oleksandr Mishchenko's Official Visit to Chișinău
According to МЗС: Oleksandr Mishchenko, Ukraine’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, recently undertook a working visit to Chișinău, where he participated in the third edition of the Moldovan Security Forum, MSF-2026. During his stay, Mishchenko met with Anatolie Nosatîi, Moldova’s Minister of Defense, as well as Valeriu Mija, the Secretary of State at Moldova’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their discussions focused on enhancing Ukraine-Moldova cooperation in security and defense, especially in the context of ongoing challenges resulting from Russian aggression.
Addressing Regional Security Challenges
Key topics included the regional security impact of Russia’s aggression, with particular attention to threats posed by drones, violations of airspace, and hybrid warfare tactics. Both countries agreed to boost their coordination mechanisms to effectively counter these shared threats. Moldova has already extended humanitarian aid to Ukraine in demining efforts, including organizing training programs for Ukrainian sappers. Minister Nosatîi reaffirmed Moldova’s commitment to sustain this vital support.
The talks also covered issues related to the Transnistrian conflict resolution, cross-border cooperation, and the European integration paths of both Ukraine and Moldova. Valeriu Mija emphasized Moldova’s steadfast backing of Ukraine at both bilateral and international levels. In response, Oleksandr Mishchenko expressed gratitude to the Moldovan government for its energy assistance and ongoing support for Ukrainian citizens.
Moldova’s Defense Minister Anatolie Nosatîi confirmed the country’s readiness to continue providing necessary aid.
The visit underscored the significance of joint efforts to advance Ukraine and Moldova’s aspirations toward European Union membership. Following their consultations, both sides committed to deepening collaboration across security, defense, energy security, and countering hybrid threats.
Valeriu Mija reiterated Moldova’s unwavering support for Ukraine.
This diplomatic engagement reflects the growing strategic importance of Ukraine-Moldova cooperation amid evolving geopolitical pressures. Strengthened security coordination and shared progress toward EU integration stand to reinforce both nations’ standing on the international stage, particularly in facing Russian aggression and hybrid security challenges. Such developments may also contribute meaningfully to regional stability.
As Ukraine and Moldova strengthen their security ties, it’s essential to consider how broader European dynamics influence these developments. Recently, discussions in Kyiv between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and President Zelensky shed light on enhancing Ukraine's defense capabilities and regional security frameworks amidst ongoing tensions.
