Current Situation in Kyiv

According to РБК-Україна — Lite: Olena Topolya has decided not to relocate her children from Kyiv, even as missile strikes continue to hit the city. The family has a shelter within their apartment building, and the children are finishing the school year while preparing for exams. Over the past year, Olena’s apartment was damaged by a Russian rocket attack, which shattered windows and doors.

A mother of three, Olena acknowledges that recent explosions occurred very close to their home, but she still feels a degree of safety.

“We have a shelter and we always go there. The children are finishing their studies and need to take exams. I really hope everything will be fine,” she says.

However, she admits growing concern because the latest strikes were the first to hit so near their residence.

“The kids are more careless about it now because they’ve gotten used to it. But it’s starting to worry me a little. The recent shelling was the first time it was quite close to our building,” she adds.

Safety Measures

After the rocket attack, the family renovated their apartment and installed armored windows for added protection.

“I had already resigned myself to losing the glass again. But it stayed intact because we installed armored windows,” Olena notes.

During the attack on the night of May 24, the windows withstood the blast wave, proving the effectiveness of these new defenses.

Despite the danger, Olena Topolya’s family remains in Kyiv, adapting to the new reality and ensuring their children’s education continues.

The situation in Kyiv remains tense due to ongoing shelling, yet many families-like Olena Topolya’s-choose to stay in the city, hoping for stabilization. In wartime, it is crucial to provide children with opportunities for learning and a sense of normalcy, even under difficult circumstances. Olena and other parents demonstrate resilience and a commitment to routine, implementing safety upgrades in their homes.

In times of uncertainty, personal stories of resilience can provide insight and inspiration. For instance, Alyosha shares her journey after a significant life change, highlighting the importance of finding strength amid challenges. Such narratives remind us of the human spirit's capacity to endure and adapt, much like Olena Topolya's determination to maintain her children's education in Kyiv.
