Pretrial Probe in Blackmail Case Wraps Up

According to РБК-Україна — Lite: Olena Topolya has announced the completion of the first phase of the pretrial investigation into a blackmail case involving a private video. One of the suspects, Serhiy Zh., will soon face trial. According to available information, Serhiy Zh. faces a minimum of seven years in prison under Part 5 of Article 27 and Part 4 of Article 189 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which cover extortion. Two additional charges have also been added to the case.

Ongoing Investigation and Discovered Bugs

Topolya stated that the investigation continues regarding the instigators and main organizers of the blackmail.

“The case continues concerning the masterminds and key organizers. There are several more people involved in this whole scheme. It was being prepared months before it actually happened,” she noted.

The meeting with Serhiy Zh. took place on December 10, and according to Topolya, he received $15,000 for his role in the affair.

“Serhiy Zh. will soon be in court to hear what awaits him. This is not a game, friends, not PR, not some sick fantasy of mine. Thank God, I don’t have those. So, this person will get what he deserves under the law. And I didn’t create this. Everyone must answer for their actions,” she added.

During her own investigation, Topolya also discovered two listening devices. “I was looking for a pair of my earrings and accidentally found a bug. And that was already the second one. I found the first one in my bag. That was back in November,” she reported. This situation raises concerns about potential intrusions into personal privacy.

Topolya emphasized the importance of transparency in the investigation. “Publicity, girls, women-it’s a very effective tool for getting information out there, so that within the legal framework, law enforcement cannot delay or somehow obstruct the investigation,” she stated. The case continues to attract significant public interest, and its further developments will be closely watched.
