The Hardships Faced by Ukrainians Living Abroad

According to Главком: In a candid interview with URC Radio, Ukrainian television personality Olga Freimut opened up about the toll that life in emigration has taken on her. She admitted that adapting to a new country has left her exhausted, as she now has to handle all household chores on her own. Before the war, her existence resembled a 'Dolce Vita,' where she could rely on domestic help for daily tasks. Now, Freimut finds herself cleaning, cooking, and managing everyday errands without assistance.

The host avoids using cleaning services in London, citing a sense of embarrassment:

“I simply feel too ashamed to call a cleaner for such a small apartment.” – Olga Freimut

Freimut relocated to the United Kingdom at the start of the full-scale invasion, marking a significant shift in her life. She emphasized the heavy burden she now carries:

“I need to stay in control. If I let my guard down, everything will fall apart. There’s so much on my plate. I’m a woman in exile. I have to take care of my life in a new country. It’s draining.” – Olga Freimut

Struggles and Obstacles

Adding to her challenges, Freimut was caught in a missile attack on Kyiv during the night of May 24, which damaged her apartment. She had just returned to the city and spent the night in a shelter with her children. This incident underscores the ongoing difficulties she faces amid war and displacement.

For many Ukrainians forced to leave their homeland due to the conflict, life abroad is fraught with hurdles, from adjusting to unfamiliar environments to tackling daily chores independently. Freimut’s story reflects the common struggles of countless Ukrainian emigrants, illustrating how the war has upended their routines. Her experiences also highlight the need for societal empathy and support for those navigating similar circumstances.

Similar to Freimut, actress Olga Sumska has shared her harrowing experiences during the ongoing conflict, including surviving a strike in Lukyanivka. Her account sheds light on the relentless challenges faced by those who remain in Ukraine amid constant shelling.
