Olympic champion Oleg Vernyayev spoke about how much he earns and spends in 2026
Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics Oleg Vernyayev revealed that his monthly personal expenses reach around 20 thousand UAH, but treatment for injuries can additionally cost up to $1000. The athlete lives at the Olympic base and does not pay rent for housing.
Earnings of Oleg Vernyayev in 2026: two main payments
Vernyayev stated that he does not receive a salary from the Gymnastics Federation. He earns about 5400-5500 UAH a month on a part-time basis at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
This amount includes bonuses for the title of honored athlete, a scientific degree of candidate of philosophical sciences, and the completion of graduate school.
The main source of Vernyayev's regular income is the Central Sports Club of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. There, his salary, according to Vernyayev, is around 33-35 thousand UAH.
Previously, the athlete also received an annual scholarship of 27 thousand UAH after winning the European Championship, but it has now ended. Vernyayev noted that he uses savings accumulated during his sports victories for additional expenses.
Expenses of Oleg Vernyayev: living at the base and expensive treatment for injuries
The athlete lives at the Olympic base in Koncha-Zaspa, so he does not pay for housing rent, only for utilities. He also eats in the base cafeteria, where an average lunch costs about 250-300 UAH.
Vernyayev spends approximately 5-7 thousand UAH on groceries each month. For transport, he uses an electric BYD vehicle. His fuel or charging expenses can reach 5-6 thousand UAH a month, according to his estimates.
«For you, 20,000 is enough. Well, plus-minus let it be», - said Vernyayev, speaking about his monthly personal expenses excluding treatment and investments in his own sports school.
The biggest variable expense for the athlete is recovery after injuries. He shared that in certain months, treatment can cost about $1000. In particular, the gymnast is undergoing procedures for an Achilles tendon injury.
Vernyayev purchases clothes without orientation towards luxury brands, and about 80% of his wardrobe consists of Adidas, with which he has a contract.
