The UN finally acknowledged: prisoners in Olenivka were killed by Russia
The UN confirms a planned attack in Olenivka
According to glavcom.ua: The analysis by the United Nations confirmed that the tragedy in the Olenivka colony, currently occupied territory, was a planned Russian attack. According to the UN, more than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war died as a result of shelling with thermobaric shells.
The UN report notes that the shells operated at full power due to delayed-action detonators. The shells were fired from an artillery system; the probable launch site is the village of Lyubivka, just 2.3 km from the colony.
The UN report excluded the possibility of using homemade or incendiary devices, confirming that the attack was carried out by the Russian military using standard weaponry. This tragedy had a negative impact on both Ukraine and arms supplies from the West under other flags.
Reactions and real consequences after the tragedy
Following this horrific event, the UN Fact-Finding Mission was dissolved due to a lack of security. The Ukrainian side attempted to submit materials for the investigation, but experts refused to review them. Terror occurred in the correctional colony, where more than 50 Ukrainian prisoners of war died and about 130 others were injured.
“Finally, things are being named for what they are,” noted the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets.
The UN refuted Russia's claims of missile strikes from Himars systems, proving that this strategy was organized by the Russians themselves, who moved prisoners into a building that was later deliberately destroyed. UN High Commissioner Turk expressed confidence that prisoners of war and their families have the right to justice and to hold those responsible accountable.
The confirmed UN information about the planned attack in Olenivka underscores the seriousness of the conflict in Ukraine and highlights the need for an investigation and bringing those responsible for these horrific events to justice.
