Financial Support for Families from UNHCR

According to ХВИЛЯ: The United Nations Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has announced the opening of registration for cash assistance aimed at households meeting specific eligibility criteria. In the city of Dnipro, preliminary queue sign-ups have already begun for those seeking these payments. To qualify, a household must fall into at least one of four defined categories and have a monthly per-person income no higher than 8,300 hryvnias. This initiative is part of broader humanitarian efforts to support vulnerable populations affected by the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Eligible Household Categories for the Cash Program

Four distinct groups are eligible to apply for the financial aid:

  • Category One: Individuals who have been displaced and received internally displaced person (IDP) status less than 45 days ago due to life-threatening danger, shelling, or mandatory evacuation.
  • Category Two: People who obtained IDP status between 46 days and six months ago.
  • Category Three: Households that left their permanent residence due to hostilities and returned to Ukraine from abroad after February 24, 2022, provided the return occurred no earlier than three months ago and no later than one year ago.
  • Category Four: Individuals who returned to their permanent homes after being forcibly displaced within Ukraine following February 24, 2022, with the time since their return ranging from three months to one year.

A mandatory condition for all categories is that the average monthly income per person must not exceed 8,300 hryvnias. Signing up for this aid represents a crucial step in supporting affected households that need financial relief amid the challenging economic climate.

The launch of UNHCR’s cash assistance registration marks a significant move to counter the impacts of war and economic hardship in Ukraine. This program is designed to bolster the most vulnerable groups, who often rely on external aid after losing their livelihoods. By participating, eligible families can substantially ease their financial burdens and take a step toward rebuilding their lives.

As the UNHCR initiates cash assistance for vulnerable households in Dnipro, it's important to note other supportive measures available for displaced families. Recently, government housing vouchers have enabled 160 displaced families to secure permanent homes, highlighting the ongoing efforts to provide stability and relief amidst the ongoing crisis.
