Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry Welcomes UN Investigation Report

According to МЗС: The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed strong support for the report presented by the UN Independent International Commission of Inquiry during the 81st session of the General Assembly. The report details violations of international humanitarian and human rights law, highlighting targeted Russian attacks on Ukraine’s civilian energy infrastructure, which are classified as war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Widespread Damage and Human Toll

The investigation reveals that extensive and systematic assaults on Ukraine’s energy facilities have caused severe destruction, resulting in significant physical and psychological harm to civilians, including fatalities. For over four years, millions of Ukrainians have been deprived of electricity, heating, and water due to these deliberate actions. The commission found that these attacks reflect a state policy by the Russian Federation aimed at cutting off essential energy supplies to civilians, using cold and darkness as weapons of war against the Ukrainian population.

In addition, the commission uncovered evidence of deceptive and coercive recruitment practices by Russia, involving citizens from 29 countries. These individuals were lured with false employment promises before being forced into Russian armed forces, a practice classified as human trafficking. Many of those recruited have been killed, wounded, or gone missing. Ukraine calls on the international community to strengthen cooperation to dismantle these recruitment networks and hold perpetrators accountable.

This report highlights the gravity of human rights abuses in Ukraine and underscores the urgent need for a global response to Russian aggression.

The findings also emphasize the critical importance of international support for Ukraine, particularly as its population faces increasing hardships during the winter months. The global community must address not only humanitarian needs but also ensure justice for these crimes to protect human rights and uphold the rule of law in Ukraine.
