Community Survey on Changing the Name of Rylsky Lane

According to Рубрика — Суспільство: The Kyiv Digital app is currently hosting a public vote regarding the renaming of Rylsky Lane, located in the Shevchenkivskyi district, to Patriarch Filaret Street. This survey will remain open until September 30. The lane's original name traces back to the Rylsky Regiment of Russian troops stationed near Sofia Square after 1654. The lane itself was established in the 19th century.

Honoring Patriarch Filaret Through the New Name

The proposed new name commemorates the prominent Ukrainian Orthodox leader, Patriarch of Kyiv and all Rus-Ukraine, whose birth name is Mykhailo Denysenko. Since 2008, Patriarch Filaret has been recognized as an honorary citizen of Kyiv, following a decision by the City Council. He played a key role in founding the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate and was instrumental in the establishment of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

In 2019, Patriarch Filaret was awarded the title Hero of Ukraine for his significant contributions to the creation of an independent Orthodox Church in Ukraine. The renaming of streets, lanes, parks, and squares across Kyiv forms part of a broader derussification effort taking place throughout the country. To participate in the survey, users should open the Kyiv Digital app, navigate to the City Services tab, and select the Surveys section, where the renaming poll for Rylsky Lane is available.
