Конгрес США ухвалив нові санкції проти Росії в умовах загострення конфлікту в Україні.

Sanctions Amid Russia's Escalated Offensive on Ukraine

According to ХВИЛЯ: On the very night Russia launched a large-scale attack on Ukraine, the US House of Representatives approved a sanctions bill originally proposed by the late Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. The assault involved ballistic missiles, drones, and various other weapons, severely damaging Ukraine's civilian infrastructure. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the critical need for sustained pressure on Moscow and expressed gratitude for the sanction measures.

Impact of the Attack

Russia targeted eight regions across Ukraine, striking vital civilian facilities, including energy infrastructure in Sumy and Odesa regions. Residential buildings in Kyiv and Odesa were also hit, resulting in over ten injuries, including children. Several victims required hospitalization, and fires broke out in multiple communities.

During the night of September 17, Russian forces launched 157 Shahed attack drones and 'Parodiya' decoy drones, with more than half being jet-powered. Additional Russian weaponry deployed included:

  • Four Kalibr cruise missiles fired from the Caspian Sea;
  • Ten Banderol/'Dan-T' missiles launched from airspace over the Sea of Azov;
  • Oniks anti-ship missiles from Russia's Kursk region;
  • Iskander-M ballistic missiles, S-400, and KN-23 launched from Bryansk and Voronezh regions.

The brunt of the strikes fell on Kyiv, Zaporizhzhia, and Odesa regions.

Ukraine's air defense successfully intercepted or neutralized 131 targets, including 124 drones of various types and seven Banderol/'Dan-T' missiles. Impacts were recorded at 36 locations, with debris from downed targets falling in five additional areas. As of 8:00 AM on September 17, the attacks were still ongoing.

"It is symbolic that the US House approved Lindsey Graham's sanctions bill on the very night of another Russian missile, rocket, and drone attack on Ukraine."

Volodymyr Zelensky

The Ukrainian President added that "sanctions must be strong to ensure all efforts toward peace-especially our diplomatic cooperation with America, Europe, and other allies-will succeed."

The recent developments highlight an intensification of Russia's aggression, with profound consequences for Ukraine's civilian population. Meanwhile, the US congressional action signifies growing international resolve to counter Russian hostilities. This underscores the vital importance of coordinated international partnerships in maintaining regional stability and safeguarding human rights in Ukraine.

As the conflict intensifies, Ukraine's Defense Forces have been actively targeting key military installations in Russian territory, including significant strikes in Syzran and Taganrog. These operations are part of a broader strategy to counter the escalating aggression from Moscow.
