Remembering Senior Sergeant Mykhailo Strishko: Fallen Hero of Donetsk Amid Mortar Attack
Honoring Senior Sergeant Mykhailo Strishko
According to МВС: On October 18, 2023, Senior Sergeant Mykhailo Strishko of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine was fatally wounded during a mortar attack near Novomykhailivka in Donetsk region. Despite no prior military background, he answered the call to serve at the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion in March 2022.
Assigned to the rapid response border command, Strishko carried out critical combat missions in Donetsk, often under heavy artillery and mortar fire while fortifying defensive positions. In recognition of his bravery and dedication, he was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage, 3rd Class.
His story will be preserved in the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Book of Remembrance, which honors fallen defenders of Ukraine.
Mykhailo Strishko’s sacrifice underscores the severe risks faced daily by Ukrainian service members defending their homeland. His commitment and valor highlight the ongoing need to support those on the front lines. The posthumous decoration he received stands as a testament to his courage in the struggle for Ukraine’s sovereignty.
As we reflect on the sacrifices made by our defenders, it's important to remember others who have also given their lives in the line of duty. For instance, the story of another young hero, Police Officer Mykola Nykolaychuk, who fell in Donetsk at just 28 years old, serves as a poignant reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by those protecting our nation. Each of these brave individuals exemplifies the extraordinary courage required in these turbulent times.
