War Rages On, Yet Parliament Took a Break – Key Ministerial Posts Left Vacant

European Solidarity Raises Alarm

During a final briefing, members of the European Solidarity faction voiced strong concern over the legislature's decision to take a wartime break. They argued that parliament has no right to recess while the country faces an active armed conflict, especially when two crucial cabinet posts remain unfilled. The faction noted that the 9th convocation of the Rada was elected in July 2019, and since then over 2,500 party members have been defending Ukraine on the front lines. In a letter to the speaker, the deputies demanded an immediate session to address these issues.

Artur Herasimov emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating:

“This month parliament went on vacation without appointing two key ministers in a country that is fighting a bloody war. How is that possible?”

Faction Demands and Priorities

The European Solidarity faction also issued demands to the ruling mono-majority, calling for the creation of a national unity coalition. Iryna Herashchenko declared:

“It is time to declare the end of the mono-majority, which no longer exists, and form a coalition of national unity based on three principles: first, support for the Armed Forces of Ukraine; second, genuine, not cosmetic, anti-corruption efforts; and third, European integration.”

Deputy Viktoria Syumar stressed the need for transparency in defense matters: “If people steal from defense during wartime, it weakens us. The war continues, and the price is extremely high – human lives.” Her words underline the urgency of systemic changes within state institutions.

The European Solidarity faction also outlined its work priorities, including:

• overhauling the State Bureau of Investigation;
• returning personal income tax revenues to military brigades;
• establishing clear service terms;
• scaling up investment in drones, electronic warfare, and anti-Shahed systems.

According to Iryna Herashchenko, “the army, language, and faith are the foundation on which Ukrainian statehood stands today.”

The European Solidarity faction insists that the Verkhovna Rada must remain active during wartime, urgently appointing key ministers and fighting corruption. Deputies are pressuring the authorities, emphasizing that stability and transparency in governance are critical for national defense.
